Many people now have worries over where their electricity comes from. We are constantly being bombarded by news stories of how we are having a negative effect on the planet and environment. Most of our electricity still comes from fossil fuels that add to the amount of carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere. If you want to switch your electricity source to a “greener” technology then you should choose solar panels for your home.

There are many benefits that can be had by using solar energy for your home. Of course there will be immediate savings to your annual energy bills but did you also realise that you may be also eligible for certain tax breaks and benefits from your local authority. Every state government is now trying to encourage citizens to switch to green practices. You may often be able to acquire a grant to cover the cost of the installation.

If you have a property or building that is not connected to the power grid or which is in a region that often has power cuts and shortages then solar panels can be the solution. There is no longer any reason for us to depend on a government or private company to provide us with electricity.

Some people still have the idea in their minds that solar cells are not so efficient. Though this was once the case, today the technology has changed dramatically. Now even on a cloudy or overcast day the photovoltaic cells will receive enough light to produce energy.

It is possible to run your home completely off solar panels or use the cells to produce a proportion of your needs. Either option is simple to plan and put into operation. The more panels you use the greater amount of electricity that will be produced.

There are professional tradesmen that can install the panels on your property or if you understand DIY it is not such a complicated job to do yourself.

The cost of solar panels is decreasing. To make it even more affordable you can craft your own do it yourself solar panels.

DIY Clean Energy – How To Build Your Own Solar Panels

With rising prices, it is good to get cheaper power. With solar power, it is practically energy for free, and could end up earning you money. For even more affordability, it is possible to build your own solar panel.

Ahead of anything else, it is important to ensure you have the right tools and equipment. Most importantly of course are the solar cells themselves; spend some time selecting which will be best for you.

Having made that choice, you will also need; plywood, circular saw, 1 x1, screwdriver and screws, caulk, outdoor paint, solder and iron, glue, copper wire, a diode, batteries and Plexiglas.

The first step will be to draw a grid, suitable to your solar cells, on the plywood, (use them as a template). Having determined the size of the panel by this, you can cut the plywood to size and the fun can really start.

The 1 x 1 will need to be cut into sections depending on the size of the base, and attached using the screws and the caulk. Once all set, this should be painted with the outdoor paint; though not over the grid of course.

Before applying the cells, they need to be soldered together; using tabs at the back to attach one to the other. This work needs to be very careful, as the cells are very delicate at this point. Once in a suitable series, they can be applied with glue onto your plywood grid.

The copper wire should now be attached from the cell to the electrical system and batteries. To ensure no power is lost in the opposite direction, a diode line will also need to be attached at this point.

Plexiglas now needs to be attached across the entire panel. Fix this into place with suitable amounts of caulk to thoroughly protect from the elements. Now you have managed to build your own solar panel for the first time; there should be no stopping you.

By learning to build your own solar panel you can save money, help the environment, and generate electricity using free energy from the sun with DIY solar panels.

Learn How To Make A Solar Panel

Since the beginning of this century there has been a dramatic increase in the number of homes that use solar energy for a portion of their electricity needs. There are various factors behind this trend; perhaps for many households the most important issue is the money that is saved by using a cheaper energy source, but environmental factors are also high on many people’s agendas. If finances are an issue then you can learn how to make a solar panel for your home by yourself.

If you have checked out the price of a new solar panel you may be aware that they can set you back upwards of $2000. This money can be made back from the savings you’ll make in the yearly electricity bills. Nevertheless, it can be a large amount for a typical family to try and save.

The good news though, is that by putting together the solar panels with your own hands (and not paying someone else) you can have a viable energy source for as little as a couple hundred dollars.

There are various parts that you will need. Of course there are the photovoltaic cells. It is these cells that convert the sun’s rays into electricity. The basic principle is similar in nature to the process that occurs in the leaves of green plants, where chlorophyll turns the sun’s rays into energy.

Today solar cells are far more efficient then those used even a couple of years ago. It seems that every few years there are advances in solar technology that increases their ability.

Apart from the photovoltaic cells you will also need wooden boards, copper wire, panes of glass, and a soldering iron to fix the parts together in a series. To store the power you generate you will need a number of 12V or 24V batteries. The actual size of the solar panel will depend upon your energy requirements.

How Electricity Is Produced From Wind Energy

Wind energy has been used for many years as individuals have used wind power for sailing, wind mills for manufacturing and pumping water and more recently conversion into electricity using wind turbines. Wind power is a renewable energy that is considered a good option instead of burning fossil fuels. Of all the renewable energy sources it is the most efficient and you only need a light breeze to produce electricity.

The very first uses of wind for energy was in the form of wind mills and sailing as people have been using wind for more than thousands of years to propel ships. Windmills have also been used for many years for milling grain as well as pumping water for irrigation. These irrigation windmills was the main reason that farming and ranching could occur in the US, as there are vast stretches of land that do not have ready access to water.

The very first usage of wind to create electricity occurred in 1888. The first wind turbine was used to create hydrogen in the 1890s but it was soon converted to producing electricity. Small wind turbines are used to provide power to rural buildings and today there are larger wind farms that are being used to produce electricity for large networks. What is known as the modern wind industry really began in 1979 when wind turbines began to be regularly produced.

Wind occurs because the surface of the earth is not evenly heated, as the poles get less sunlight than the equator. This causes cooled and heated air to move which in turn produces wind. It is projected that the amount of power that could be harnessed form the wind is more than the human population currently uses. So just think about having almost cost free power.

The amount of power that is generated by the wind is dependent on the speed and as the wind speed doubles the amount of power produced increases eight fold. However there is a cap as wind turbines can only go so fast and generate so much energy. You do not need high winds at all time though as a lot of energy can still be produced with 15 mph breezes. As such, wind power is a valuable method for alternative energy.

The main issue with wind energy is storage as wind power cannot be dispatched at different times but needs to be used immediately. Many companies have looked into different types of batteries, storing it within the energy grid and even hydroelectricity. Many times surplus energy from domestic wind turbines are fed back into the electrical grid and the energy company will purchase this energy and you will receive electricity credits.

A wind turbine used to collect the power of wind will contain a rotor shaft, gearbox and brake assembly. Generally within a wind farm the different turbines are interconnecting for power collection and communication networking. Wind energy uses induction generators to collect the power and change it to electricity.

The best types of generators are doubly fed machines as they will function when errors occur within the grid. You need to be aware of the power factor, dynamic behavior and frequency constancy when a system fault should occur.

Wind power should be thoroughly considered in order to promote a greener society. Educate your children to become future scientists by purchasing them science lab equipment.

Phoenix Solar Panels: Why Aren’t There More

If you were driving through a residential area of Phoenix solar panels would not be a likely sight. Solar energy is a free and clean technology. Free in that you are getting energy from the sun. This energy is also renewable. Unfortunately, installing and maintaining panels is not cheap.

The idea of solar panels is to capture the sun’s energy to feed electricity to your home. In other states that would be fantastic during the summer months, your electricity bill would be lower and you would be earning electricity credits from your utility company. Then when the winter hits and you need to crank up your heating system those credits come into play to balance out your winter bills.

Maybe I watch too many movies, but I associate Phoenix with a scene showing an orange color terrain. The sun is beating down on cracked clay and a scorpion walking across the screen. Mind you I know this is probably not the case in most parts of Arizona but if it were then Phoenix should be able to be powered by the sun forever. But the truth is solar panels are not a common scene in Phoenix.

Tax credits are being offered by the government to get people on board with green energy. However that is not enough incentive due to the high cost of the panels even with the credits. The normal household cannot come up with that kind of money in hopes of making it back over the years in lower electrical costs. The ones benefiting from this technology are the large companies.

Maintenance of the panels is another cost to consider. They can crack which is another consideration when thinking about buying them. The panels do not always work best in intense heat. Climates that are cooler and sunnier have shown better results.

Arizona’s utility company is getting on the band wagon. They are offering free solar panel installation to a small number of customers to entice other customers in the future. Renewable energy requirements are not being met and this project will help them meet their goals.

An Analysis About Hot Water Heating Systems

We tend to all enjoy the idea of getting readily usable hot water in our homes, and it’s the presence of hot water heating systems that produces this possible.

Whatever your needs might be, the use of water heaters in houses is something that you will positively need to think about if you’re going into a recently build house, or simply seeking out a new heating unit for water.

There are several completely different types that you will want to decide on, and I plan to expand further concerning 3 of the most widespread styles. Hopefully you will decide which one of them is optimally suited to your house and wants, resulting in a worthy buy.

If you are like most homeowners, you will just need to buy a gas water heater. There are a number of reasons that people opt for gas, and maybe the biggest one relates to the reality that gas water heating systems are the cheapest to buy.

On the other hand, they’re most likely the toughest to maintain due to the fact that they will require constant gas refills so as to keep them running.

If you’re one who has a preference for ease of use, then you might want to choose an electric hot water heating system. The rationale for this has to do with the very fact that all you’ll have to do is leave it plugged in, in which case the heater runs on its own, supplying you with very readily accessible hot water any time you need it.

One last choice that seems to increase in presence year in and year out is the solar water heater. This is the most energy efficient way of doing things, and you’ll rest assured that you will not have to fret about expensive electric expenses.

On the other hand, this hot water heating system can typically sell for a lot more money than the alternative two models previously discussed.

A Guide to Hot Water Heating Systems

Everyone wants hot water in their homes, and many homeowners are forced to look into hot water heating systems as a means of ensuring the optimal temperature for their showers and other activities.

If you’re currently looking into the different possibilities, you’ve probably seen that there are a few different types. I’d like to review them in further detail with you as it’s important to identify the best fit for your home.

The most popular type is the gas hot water heating system because of the fact the cost of buying one is essentially lower than any other type. These will cost a few hundred dollars, powered by propane or other gas.

On the other hand, there are a few negatives that come with the territory too. These are a bit harder to set up than other devices, and any owners of these will constantly need to purchase gas refills to keep the unit going.

Since many prefer to avoid the time and effort that comes with refilling the gas supply, an electric hot water heater offers a lot more convenience. However, these consume a lot of energy too, adding up to high electric bills each month as a result.

Perhaps the lowest maintenance device is the solar hot water heating system, though it’s also the most expensive. Since the energy cost here is nonexistent, this is a great option for those who can afford the cost. These solar devices continue to grow in popularity.

If this is out of your price range, the on demand hot water heater might be the perfect solution for you. Your energy costs will be reasonable since the unit only runs when you want it to, though without advance planning, you may end up having to wait for your water to heat.

Now that you have a basic understanding as to the most popular options, hopefully one of these hot water heating systems makes the most sense for your situation. Review the possibilities thoroughly by doing some more research, and I’m confident that you’ll find a great fit for your home and your needs.

While we’ve gone over the basics of the different types here, a lot more reading about solar hot water heaters can be accessed by those looking for more information.

Tapping alternative energy sources

We don’t notice it often since we are so focused on petroleum and its derivatives, but there are many other alternative sources of energy which are in abundance on our planet. These sources are virtually in exhaustible and have been used across the globe in many different forms. However, they have just been used in lieu or the deficiency of petroleum and not as the primary sources.

We continuously benefit from the energy that comes from the sun, the wind, and from all the powers and energy that comes from the earth. However, we mostly fail to recognize and make use of the alternative energy and we tend to leave these alternative sources of energy undeveloped up to now. Since most of our fossil fuel supplies are now worn-out, the local government is taking into serious consideration the transitioning of natural resources into clean and renewable alternative energy.

Harnessing alternative energy sources for energy is not that tough particularly if you have a look at the progress which has been made in trying to convert fossil fuels into petroleum and other such products by purifying and refining them. The entire procedure is an expensive and tough affair and naturally costs more millions!

Transitioning may not sound familiar to most of us until now, since this process is done only in some countries. But the transitioning of alternative energy to become useful for everyone is the right thing to do not only to conserve energy, but to save the mother earth as well from total depletion. This will also lessen the causes of global warming which then causes different turbulence and tragedies throughout the world.

Solar electricity is an example of transitioning alternative energy for daily use. But this is also an example of costly and expensive renewable fuel because of the high cost involved when renewing the energy into another form of energy. Solar powers will enable us to have renewable fuel without using mechanical energy. Many people will benefit from this alternative energy if the government will do the necessary actions and all of us will do our share to learn and develop it for wider use.

Nothing has changed about the principles of generation of electricity since the time of Michael Faraday who discovered it in’00. Electromagnetic induction is perhaps the most commonly used method out of the seven methods of converting energy into electrical energy. This method basically involves generating electrical energy from kinetic energy. However, trying to tap the other new sources of energy will require us to understand the basics once again and develop some new skills and training methods.

As a solution to the development of solar energy, the photovoltaic technology began to become popular and effective for the agenda of conserving energy. This technology has been somewhat effective but it will take a lot of money for the cost of PV panels and power generating system. Some rich countries can afford to have this expensive technology like in Japan, Germany, and in America, the New Jersey and California. With the continuous research and development contributions of skilled scientists, this technology of photovoltaic solar power will eventually reach other countries.

Creating or renewing the source of power or energy we have now is possible with different developments and researches. Whatever mistakes happened and committed in the past may be repeated once again, but the good thing is there are a lot of things that we can learn from them as new methods are being generated. It is good that children are now aware of the power and energy we get from the sun, wind, and earth through the help of educational programs. This will help each of us to be aware of how to protect our mother earth from being polluted by renewing alternative energy for the benefit of each mankind.

Solar Electricity For Dummies

For many years, active groups and normal citizens alike have backed up many projects about alternative energy. Solar electricity is one of the more popularly known types of alternative energy because it is clearly a huge benefit for the environment yet, even at our current day and time, it is still underutilized.

Solar electricity is an energy formed by absorbing sunlight and converting it through a tool called solar panel. This tool uses photovoltaic technology to power up certain electrical equipment through sunlight. This happens when photovoltaic cells converts the solar energy into a solar power, making it capable of powering our electrical appliances at home.

With the solar cells inside the solar panel, the rays of the sun will be collected, transformed and converted into what we all know as solar electricity. The direct current that is created comes from the electrical charges. These charges are possible because photovoltaic goes through the semi conductors that are made from a special kind of silicon which creates the charges every-time light hits it.

Solar electricity is rising in popularity everyday. All around the world, more and more people are supporting it and it has not gone unnoticed. So why would they?

We all know that using solar electricity greatly helps not only your country but also for the greater good of the world. The whole process to produce solar energy is harmless as it does not create greenhouse gases hence doesn’t hurt the environment. The full operation and maintenance of the system goes smoothly with minimal checking needed. It is also better than other sources of alternative energy mainly because it runs so quietly. The bonus of lowering your monthly electricity bill doesn’t hurt either.

So how can we start using solar electricity?

The first thing you will need are solar panels. As has been said before, this is the single most important part of your system as it will be absorbing the sunlight everyday. The price will depend on the amount of energy you will need and the installation will also have an extra cost but it is still affordable.

But if you’re working on a tight budget, never worry since you can build your own solar panels to produce solar electricity by just few clicks on the internet.

With your help the world can become a better place. By using solar electricity as an alternative source of energy, you will be able to save money and at the same time, help the future generations to come.
