If you asked many hobbyists about how to build your own solar panel, they may give you several reasons why you might do this. In this article I have listed the top ten reasons I was given when I asked.

Some of the reasons in this article may persuade you to build your own solar panel like they did me.

Reason #1: As far as prices go, it is certainly cheaper to build your own solar panel than buying a commercial made panel.

Reason #2: It doesn’t take long to build your own solar panel, a day or two at most, when you follow the steps of a tried and true plan.

Reason #3: It is very satisfying to know you built something as useful as a working solar panel with your own two hands. And when you see your appliances being powered with electricity you helped create it can be exciting.

Reason #4: Financially speaking, your solar panel will continue to pay you back for years. And there isn’t any maintenance to speak of other than wiping dust of the surface occasionally to get the maximum benefit from the sun.

Reason #5: When you build your own solar panel it’s very environmentally friendly. The more panels you build, the more electricity you make, and the less you will have to buy from the electricity company. This will decrease your “carbon footprint”.

Reason #6: It arouses the kids’ curiosity and brings the whole family together — even your “techno phobic” wife — to learn about renewable energy.

Reason #7: It takes only (an estimate of) less than 2 years for your DIY solar panels to return what they cost you. This is much shorter than an average of 15 years for a commercial-grade solar.

Reason #8: By getting out there and building your own solar panels you get moving and will exercise some neglected muscles!

Reason #9: It provides reinforcement that you can still complete tasks you start.

Reason #10: Having solar panels, friends and family who visit your house will naturally be interested in them, and want to know about them. They make for great conversation starters.

Maybe you found the above interesting enough to want to build your own solar panel system. There are so many benefits, but the only one I needed was a lower monthly power bill!

The truth is, that it is relatively cheap, and certainly easy, to build you own solar panels. So what are you waiting for?

Learn more about how to <noindex>build your own solar panel</noindex>. Stop by Tim Haines’s site where you can find out all about <noindex>building your own solar panels</noindex> and what this can mean for you’re electricity bill!

While wind power systems and other alternative sources of electricity are becoming popular, and even common, in many parts of the world, Canada has been utilizing this form of electricity for years. Wind sourced energy has become a natural part of business and residential energy systems in Canada for quite a while. If you are considering moving to Canada soon, or even doing business with a Canadian company, you should really learn more about the way Canada uses wind energy.

Canada has been looking for a way to use the wealth of natural resources it has on its doorstep. It realizes that it has to supplement the energy that the more traditional methods of coal and water fed power stations. And may have to replace them completely in the future.

Because wind generated electricity is a great renewable resource and is also good for the environment, the Canadian Wind Energy Association has implemented a strategy to introduce more wind energy usage in the country. According to the Association, there should be 55,000 MW produced in Canada by the year 2025.

Ontario was the first province to embrace the use of wind power, but Quebec and Alberta have now joined in and others are making good progress in this field. When this century began all of the provinces had done something about implementing a plan to move towards using renewable energy. They all know that they have to build wind farms, or some other method of sourcing alternate energy, as the traditional methods are running out of supplies.

Currently British Columbia is the only province that does not have a commercial wind farm, but the area’s electronic company has recently issued an Electricity Purchase Agreements for over 300 MW of wind-powered electricity, and other wind farms are being built across the country so that more citizens can experience the benefits.

Even so, the amount of electricity that is generated by wind turbines in Canada is still fairly small in comparison to other sources, like coal and hydro-power. There are about 85 wind farms in Canada at this time, and this represents almost 2300 MW of generating capacity. But this number is growing all the time.

Detroit and Chicago are beginning to take notice of what is happening just over the border in Canada. They are considering using renewable energies, including the power of the wind, to provide the energy required to supply the many businesses and plants in their region. The effect that this will have on the environment and the budgets of local government and enterprises that buy into it will be fantastic. Even if it is impractical to rely totally on wind power there is the idea to build more hybrid power stations.

The benefits of utilizing wind powered <noindex>green energy</noindex> is not just for local governments and businesses, domestic users can benefit from this trend of using alternative energy sources as well (such as the <noindex>Feed in Tarriff program</noindex>). Residents can buy equipment to generate their own power from personal turbines. A small turbine will cost about $5000 and will generate something in the region of 25% of their energy requirement. If you have the room for something a bit larger then maybe you could get a turbine that can produce 50% of your energy needs, but only if you are prepared to pay $7000 for the privilege. Even an outlay of %600 will get you a machine that will produce 200 watts, ideal for that off-grid cabin in the woods.

It’s possible to run your business through more innovative ways by utilizing inventions like <noindex>wind power</noindex> and other <noindex>alternative energy</noindex> solutions that make your process more environmental and efficient!

It depends a lot on what you are looking for when searching for the right generator for home use. For some, it simply means a small backup source for such things as lights, small appliances, etc.

A small portable generator will do just fine for a few small appliances and lights.

For others it means a generator big enough to power their entire home.

So how do we choose what size generator to get?

If you are planning to power your entire home, then I would suggest either purchasing a commercial size generator unit or building a solar / wind system according to what you need.

Having grown up without electricity, we used alternative power for smaller things such as washers, lighting and small appliances and a small generator worked fine.

Be very careful, however, what size generator you plug something like a vacuum cleaner into.

Believe me, I have BLOWN vacuum cleaners by plugging them into too small of an energy source!

For the bigger appliances or for operating shop tools, etc, we had a noisy diesel generator out in a building that could power anything you could ever dream of putting into your home!

Building your own generator for home use.

You can find some really great guides on building your own solar and wind system that will power your home, too.

If you have access to a means of solar or wind energy or can build your own kit using either of those methods, that is by far the best option as far as long term re-usable energy…

Propane is another source of energy that will power many of your appliances and even your generator for home power.

Propane won’t evaporate as quickly as regular gas. So you can store enough to last for several years if you want to.

The amish have lived for generations without electricity and while they have used wind generators for centuries, most of their appliances are fueled by propane.

You can power everything from heating to lights and dryers, stoves and fridges with propane.

Small Portable Generator for Backup Power

If you are simply looking for a small back-up emergency generator, then a 1500 – 8000 watt generator is all you will need.

Just don’t forget that you will need to store fuel for it. Propane and diesel stores better than regular gas so keep that in mind when looking for a generator.

While the main concern should be to prepare for your family in means such as having enough food on hand, safe water, etc… having a means to live in basic comfort with at least small generator for home use is enough to make anyone feel better!

Before buying a <noindex>generator for home use</noindex>, make sure to visit Viola Bontrager’s site to research more <noindex>Emergency Energy Options </noindex>.

<noindex>The solar Power Kit</noindex> is fast becoming the buzz word in environmental circles. Consumers are becoming tired of the undesireable effects associated with using conventional energy sources.Tired of rising costs, changes to our lifestyle and in extreme even being forced into rationing, many home owners are looking toward the newest inovation in energy conservation DIY Solar Power Kits.

A large number of companies are as we speak now producing homemade energy handbooks, available for download on the internet, which give you step-by-step instructions on how to find and assemble the items for your own DIY Solar energy kits. The instructional handbooks cost around $40 – $60 and the materials that make up the kit will cost approximately $200, a lot more affordable than purchasing and installing an off the shelf kit. (The expense may run into many thousands of dollars).

The blueprints often come in the form of an instruction manual and video series that has simple to understand blueprints, instructions and examples.

Having assembled and implemented my own personal DIY Solar Energy Kits, I can vouch that the process is a simple and painless job, and the outcome in terms of saving money are amazing.

The independence a DIY solar Power Kit, allows you to feel that you are no more dependent on the power company and their rising fees for your power requirements is a liberating one for sure. How long has it been since you can leave a lounge room for an hour or so and leave the television switched on with no concern for cost or the effect you are having on the environment? As solar is a renewable power resource and does not cost anything you can now allow to be more liberal with your energy usage.

Most consumers use solar power kits to supplement the power company supply, this gives them the flexibility to avoid power outages (very handy for maintaining an internet connection) and particularly in times of high heat and the power outages that come with it, you will be able to remain cool by being able to run fans as well as keep some air conditioning units running.

Self sufficient living is experiencing a resurgence of interest as many see pollution rising and natural resources being depleted. Many are also turning to this way of life as they consider the economic benefits of learning to live a more sustainable lifestyle. So what is self sufficient living anyway?

A Definition… Self sufficient living refers to depending on renewable resources for the needs of everyday life. This means choosing to utilize those resources as opposed to depending upon municipal systems for our power, water and fuel needs. It also involves learning to grow our own food, along with preserving and storing that food. As people become more and more accustomed to sustainable living, many also learn how to make a variety of the items they use everyday – like soap, clothing, etc..

Why?… Some are adopting a more self sufficient way of life out of a reaction to the fast paced, high stress lifestyle typical in a metropolitan setting. They see this as a way to simplify their life and adopt a lifestyle that is healthier, both physically and emotionally. Others are doing it as part of a preparedness plan in light of increasing economic and political uncertainties as well as looming threats like natural disaster and even terrorism.

Here are the major things to think about when considering the option of self sufficient living.

Alternative Energy – There are numerous solutions to getting off the grid. Some are happy with a simple, generator and battery setup. However, this still requires gasoline, diesel or propane to sustain the system. A far better method would be something like solar power, which is low maintenance and powered by nature. While it can cost around $10,000 for a small system, that investment will be payed back over time. Other choices include wind and hydro power.

Food – There has been increased interest in gardening in recent years as evidenced by an increase in garden seed sales. This is truly a part of self sufficient living that anyone can start right away. While there are many helpful books on the subject, this is one area in which it largely comes down to experience. Thus, the sooner you get started, the better. Even if you only have a small patio, you can start gardening in pots, even during winter months, you can grow some things in the house. The other aspect of food involves learning to preserve and store food. This is something that people used to be better at, but with the convenience of supermarkets, many do not consider just how fragile a family’s food supply can be. Natural disasters remind us of this when interruptions in transport result in shelves being emptied in only a matter of hours. Methods for food preservation and storage include canning, dehydrating, air vacuum sealing, and use of air tight storage containers.

Water – Self sufficient water systems include wells, springs, and some even use water from other sources like streams or creeks and utilize filtration systems for purification. If you are interested in the latter, make sure you are aware of legal requirements pertaining to use of surface water in your area as this may be regulated. The importance of having your own water system is generally underestimated by most people until they find themselves in a crisis without enough water even for drinking, let alone other domestic needs. Another important consideration is having an adequate water supply for agriculture, which can require more water volume than what is needed for domestic use. There may not be much a person can do about this particular issue unless they own their own property and are in a setting where such options are available to them. In most cases, this means living in a more rural setting where one has the freedom to drill a well or develop other water sources. This leads to the final consideration covered in this article.

For the ultimate in self sufficient living, why not consider relocating to a more rural setting. City life is the least conducive to becoming more self reliant. We’ll look more closely at this point in a future article. Many people are making their country living dream a reality with careful planning and persistence.

You can experience self sufficient living, enjoying the benefits of becoming independent from utility companies and supermarkets. Keep your dream before you and persevere and a simpler, healthier way of life can be yours.

Getting your garden to look just the way you want it to is not only not easy, but it is an on-going battle against weeds, pests and disease, so once you have lovely garden, the next stage is how to show it off it in all lighting and weather conditions. This article is about just that: how to use landscape lighting to great effect.

One aspect of landscape lighting is called accent lighting. This type of lighting is employed to subtly light up bushes or flowers along with other things. You can also light up a snow storm or rain, it gives a beautiful effect, but this takes more powerful lighting such as flood lights.

The point is that you do not need to have the beauty of your garden on display for only the day light hours, you can also get great enjoyment out of it in the evenings and even at night; in the summer and in the winter.

There is a huge range of landscape lighting. For example, there are lamps, lanterns, floodlights and spotlights and they can be powered by mains electricity or by the sun. Obviously, if you want to use grid electricity, you will need to have an electrician lay armoured cable in your garden, which can be costly and is more or less permanent.

The alternative is solar powered lighting, which is impermanent. If you put it somewhere and then change your mind, you can move it yourself and there are no electricity running costs. Solar powered light fittings are more expensive than standard ones, but all in all, taking into account the electrician’s fees and the on-going electricity bill, solar powered devices work out cheaper. Plus, you will be doing something for the environment that every gardener is doing his or her best to protect.

This article is not concerned with security lighting, but landscape lighting does have a spin-off by adding extra security to your property. Before buying any landscape lighting, you ought to have a good idea of what you are looking for.

There are several ways of going about this. You could first of all draw a plan of your garden and photocopy it a couple of times so that you can commit your thoughts to paper.

You could take a walk around your local area and pick up ideas by observing neighbours’ gardens. You could go look at how the council lights its parks and public buildings and you could buy a few landscaping magazines to get an idea of the latest items on the market.

It is also worth visiting a few gardening centres, because they will also be showing off their wares to their full advantage. As you get thoughts, pencil them in on one of your photocopies. If you want to test a few ideas very roughly, you could put a suitable flashlight under a bush that you think would benefit from landscape lighting and observe it. If you do not like it remove it from your plan and try something else.

Once you are happy with your sketch, go out and get the requisite lighting. If they are grid supplied you will need an electrician, if they are solar powered you do not. If you try some of these ideas you will soon learn how to use landscape lighting to great effect.

Owen Jones, the author of this article writes on quite a few topics, but is at present concerned with <noindex>outdoor accent lighting</noindex>.

It’s not only the rich and famous who use solar power now, since solar powered systems are more affordable these days. And there’s nothing wrong with all of us being environmentally friendly. In fact, the Earth needs it because of the many difficulties it is now facing, such as global temperature change. To create electricity, fossil fuels are often burned, but with the burning of these fuels, global warming will become worse. Because of this, many people are opting for solar-powered homes nowadays.

There are several advantages to using solar power for homes. How much are you charged for electricity every month? Many homeowners are hurting because of the high cost of electricity. One way to lower your bills is to opt for solar power.

You don’t need any wiring if you use solar power systems. For instance, for your garden lights and water outlets, you can use solar power. Many of the gadgets have light sensors and you no longer have to worry about turning them off. Solar lights are readily available and you just need to take them out and place them where you want to get some good light.

Solar power is environmentally friendly. It is an excellent form of renewable and clean energy. You won’t contribute to pollution, unlike with fossil fuels. By using solar power systems like the solar cooker, solar thermal systems, and solar generators, you can cook without emissions. In that way, you can help in saving the environment.

During the setup of using solar power, you will need to spend money. Just think of it as an investment, in which you will benefit in the long run. For under $300, you can create solar power in your home. Solar power is then free, since you will use the sun’s energy to create electricity. You can make use of solar lights, solar panels, etc.

Don’t cut off your conventional electricity supply, though, even when you’re using solar power. It’s not sunny every day, and you may need traditional electricity during rainy days. The best benefit of solar power is lowering your monthly electric bill. If you can convert your home into a full solar powered house, you will save a lot of money and won’t need to worry even if fuel prices go up.

Power outages usually occur when there are problems, but as long as you have solar power, you can enjoy using electrical appliances continuously. For those who are interested in solar power, you can start with simple projects like the water features and lights in your garden. These features are easy to develop and you won’t need any wiring.

As with everything on earth, there are disadvantages as well as advantages. While solar power has many advantages, you also need to look into the disadvantages. You need to carefully consider things before you decide to create your solar powered home.

Today, you can easily purchase solar powered devices like flashlights, pool purifiers, ventilators, mosquito inhibitors, heaters, fountain pumps, radios, lighting, and many other types. Prepare to spend a little money upfront for the solar power devices, but don’t worry. After several months, you will start saving a lot of money on your monthly bills. Think of it as a one-time investment, which in the future, will surely pay off in huge savings.

Solar panels can help you provide your house with hot water for the whole year. The panels will collect the solar energy and will turn them into heat energy that will quickly heat the water and keep it hot for the whole day.

Solar energy is now a great source of electricity. You can use the solar panels on the roof of your house to provide you with a sufficient amount of electric energy just to operate couple of devices and cut down your electric bill.

Smaller electric cars use the solar energy for running and here the solar energy is converted into electric energy. Remember that the count of solar cells should be sufficient enough to generate the required electric energy.

Of late, one can also use this energy for running smaller equipments by generating the required energy. The interesting feature of these devices is that they will work every day throughout the day and you don?t have to worry about recharging them.

Adding the cells to your house roof is the best thing that you can do these days because that will help you save a lot of money with little investment. The panels will collect the energy that you need and change it into heat or electricity.

When a person has electricity, then sky is the limit to the amount of things you can do with this energy. You should find out the number of solar panels you would need for meeting your requirement.

Finally, make sure that you are getting the best quality solar panels in order to avoid any power leakage.

As it is so straightforward to do, you do not must wait for the time when the govt. will decide the people to fully shift into this power source. You can do the method on your own as you can gain benefit from its low price and the potency it gives in supplying your required quantity of electricity per day. To discover more about the reasons why you should finally choose to shift to homemade solar power then you can consider the facts below :

2. In case you worry about the heavy price of solar electricity installation, do not be.The govt currently offers rebate programs in their wish of pursuing all voters to do the change. By asking around, who can say if you can get the required discount programme you need to minimize the price of installation?
